Gas accidents brought huge casualties and property losses to China’s coalproduction.Gas disaster management, in addition to strengthening the management, todiscovery disaster formation and physical mechanism, and to strengthen technicalsupport is more needed.Taking load experiment on rock mechanics testing system is the most commonlyused method to the study on the coal and rock deformation and failure law as well to getawareness of disaster formation and physical mechanism and then take reasonablemeasures such as gas drainage. However, it is very difficult to make sample of soft coaldue to it’s soft and broken characteristics.Based on the previous research results, manyattempts and improvement are taken after the making methods of coal samplestudied. At last, samples of soft coal are made successfully and taken loading test on therock mechanics testing system. The deformation and failure process of softcoal, according to the study results and simulation analysis of RFPA software, aredivided into five stages with different features:pressure-airtightness stage, elastic-likedeformation stage, elastic-plastic stage, destroying phase and residual plasticstage. What’s more, the actual stress of coal bodyin the working surface is tested and theresult further validates ion of the study results.Through the coal loading experiments, the deformation and failure characteristicsof tectonic coal during loading process is discussed and analysised, which is ofimportant significance for the study of coal and gas outburst mechanism and theimprovement of gas pumping effect.
