In recent years, as the quantity command of big bar is increasing fast, there are manybig bar rolling lines are being constructed or reconstructed. The two high reversing breakdown mill(BDM) and cogging down technology have been widely used in big bar insemiconti--nuous rolling line. This dissertation is about a BDM designed by DANIELIcompany, it analysis the problems appeared in the BDM hot commissioning period, andstudy how to optimize the rolling schedule to reduce the cost and increase the productivity.There are two situations in BDM optimization, one of them is to optimize the passdesign based on the specific rolling schedule, the other one is to optimize rolling schedulebased on the specific pass design. In practical the latter situation is more common whilethe former one is the necessary step in pass design. This dissertation optimize the rollingschedule by genetic algorithm(GA) first and then analysis the problem in pass design, inthe end, optimize the pass design.This dissertation based on the two high reversing BDM, analysis the issues come outwhile commissioning and optimize rolling schedule and go further to the pass designoptimization. the main work of this dissertation is:1. Study the influence of pass parameter on billet spread through the ABAQUS finiteelement software. combine the measured value and the existing modal, gain a newspread modal suitable for the BDM by regression.2. Study the characteristic of the BDM, choose the appropriate modals in rolling processaccording to the measured data.3. Analysis the reduction schedule and the speed schedule of BDM. settle the relativeproductivity and equal ware as optimization objective, programme the GA byMATLAB and get the optimized rolling schedule.4. Optimize some of the pass parameters according to the optimized rolling schedule.
