This article use attapulgite nanoparticles to toughen epoxy resin,improve theepoxy resin’s fracture toughness,strengthen the resin’s ability to resist the crackextension.Meanwhile,the nanoparticles may form barrier structure,when the gasgo through the polymer,its path may be deflected,slow the rate of gas goingthrough the polymer.Play a role of barrier the gas leakage through the epoxyresin.Consequently,achieve the goal of enhance the composite’s gas barrierproperty.This article simulate the crack’s extension in epoxy resin by finite elementanalysis.and nanoparticle’s impact to the crack extension while the boundrybetween nanoparticle and epoxy resin in good condition of adhesion,get thechange of crack expanding route,as well as energy’s time history.Demonstratethe attapulgite nanoparticles can prevent the crack from expandingeffectively,this fuction takes effect by increasing the energy for crack expanding.Finally,measure the fracture toughness of casting epoxy resin andnanoparticle reinforced casting epoxy resin through the three points bendingexperiment,the critical stress intensity factor for the casting epoxy withnanoparticle is greater than the pure casting epoxy.Nanoparticle reinforcedcasting epoxy resin’s critical stress intensity factor was KIC=1.739MPa/m1/2,when pure casting epoxy resin was KIC=1.448MPa/m1/2.Indicate thatadding nanoattapulgite to the epoxy can enhance material’s property for resistingcrack’s extension.The nanoparticle enhanced epoxy laminate’s gas permeabilitywas2.96×10-5Paï¹'m3/s,the pure epoxy laminate’s gas permeability was3.52×10-5Paï¹'m3/s. The measurement result of the composite plate’s gas leakage ratealso demonstrate plate with nanoparticle enhanced epoxy has superior gas barrierproperty than the plate with pure epoxy.Indicated that nanoparticle’s addition cansignificantly enhance the material’s gas barrier property.
