| Milling a certain Angle of the arc with the ordinary vertical milling machine is lowefficiency, difficult to operate and the interchangeability often cannot meet therequirements and the needs of mass production. In addition, it’s easy to cause waste. Tosolve these problems, a kind of special milling machine tool is designed and developed.This machine achieves a semi-automated control and dual-spindle machining, whichwill greatly improve the production efficiency when the machining accuracy isguaranteed.This paper firstly introduces the process, coordinate system and tool compensationalgorithm of the CNC special milling machine. According to the flywheel processingrequirements, a clear process and the machine coordinate system that includes machinetools origin, the origin of the program, the work-piece coordinate system is set. Due tothe characteristics of the milling, the tool compensation algorithm is designed tominimize the active error.Secondly, the overall structure, spindle system and the transmission system aredesigned. Taking into account the efficiency of the processing, a special double-spindleand double-position structure is designed, essentially different from the ordinary CNCmilling machine. In addition to, the natural frequency of the spindle box is obtainedaccording to modal analysis by using ANSYS, which verifies the feasibility of thedesign of the structure.Thirdly, a control plan based on ARM7microprocessor and μCOS-II operatingsystem is developed. The control information is sent by the microprocessor to themachine tool motor system to accomplish the cutter rotation, table feed and rotary feed.Switch sensors and limit switches are used to detect the movement of each coordinateand then fed back to the microprocessor. Furthermore, the process of the software is alsodesigned.Then, high voltage circuit and electromagnetic compatibility is designed in order toensure system stability and reliability of the machine tool.Finally, the prototype of special CNC milling machine tool is manufactured, whichincludes embedded hardware platform, software platform, high voltage system, thespindle system, transmission system and auxiliary systems. Entire milling sitecommissioning, verify the correctness and feasibility of the machine control system and structural design.CNC milling machine is a very difficult mechatronic products, involving manydisciplines, including mechanical design technology, electrical and electronictechnology, sensor technology, information processing technology, automatic controltheory.
