In this paper, fullerene polymers with well-defined structure, good solubility and high molecular weight were designed, synthesized and their novel properties were investigated. Fullerene monomers (diol or alkyne compounds) with flexible spacer in the side chain were successfully synthesized. The decoupling method of liquid crystal polymer was used to design the fullerene polymer by reduce the bulky fullerenes’effects on the flexibility of the main chain. The influence of the structure on properties of fullerene polymer were systematically investigated. The detailed researches were summarized as the following:(1) Syntheseis and polymerization of fullerene monomer with the alkyne functional group. Two kinds of fullerene monomers with alkyne functional group in the side chains, which have different length of alkyl chain as flexible spacer, were prepared successfully. Afterwards, fullerene polyalkynes were polymerized under the condition of metal complex catalyst. The obtained fullerene polyalkynes cannot dissovle in the normal organic solvents due to their cross-linked structure.(2) Synthesis and characterizations of fullerene diol monomer. The fullerene diol monomer with flexible spacer in side chain and their comparisons with no fullerene were prepared through six steps of organic reactions. The structures of monomers were chacracterized by FT-IR,1H NMR,and13C NMR.(3) Investigation of conditons of polycondensation, synthesis and characterizations of fullerene polymers. The optimum reaction condition was obtained by the polycondensation of diol with diacyl chloride. Consequently, the well-defined side-chain fullerene polyesters were obtained by the polycondensation of fullerene diol with different kinds of diacyl chloride in the optimun condition. The molecular weights and polydispertion of fullerene polymers were characterized by1H NMR、GPC.(4) The property investigation of well-defined side-chain fullerene polyesters. The properties of fullerene polyesters were investigated by TGA, UV-vis. The fullerene polyesters show the special properties of low refractive indices.
