Along with the development of technology and the optical system designing, aspheric surface has been applied more and more widely in the field of tools, energy, transportation, aerospace, navigation and so on. Aspheric surface has outstanding advantages in many aspects compared with the traditional optical surfaces. Aspheric surface can significantly reduce the number of elements and the weight of the optical systems, at the same time can acquire high imaging quality. Therefore, it is necessary to find solutions to design and create the aspheric surface accurately and efficiently. The technology of Slow Tool Servo processing is a kind of method of ultra-precision diamond turning, it relies on the linkage of X, Z and C three axis to produce the high quality of aspheric surface efficiently.This paper mainly study on the technology of Slow Tool Servo processing to produce aspheric surface, mainly aims at the machine body, the processing ability, the tool path planning and so on. Then, toric surface is cut and measured at last. The main content of the paper are as follows:1. Some characteristics, applications and development of aspheric surface and processing were generalized. The development of Slow Tool Servo processing in domestic and foreign countries was also introduced.2. Study on the design of machine body with Slow Tool Servo processing, mainly include the parameter calculation and selection of the ball screw, the pair of guide rail, the servo motor as well as the workbench, to lay the foundation for the later experimental research.3. Study on the analysis of the executive ability of the servo axes, and the ability to fabricate the aspheric surface, establish ability curves to determine whether the work-pieces can be cut by Slow Tool Servo, study on the tool path generation at the same time, meanwhile, analyze the characteristics of various kinds of the calculation of tool, in addition to select the best one.4. Build the mathematical model of toric surface, then cut toric surface with the Slow Tool Servo lathe. Finally, measure the surface of the workpieces.
