Mixed C4in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is an important feedstock for the synthesis of high-octane gasoline additive methyl tert-butyl ether. If the desulfurization operation of the LPG is not completely, it will result in the high sulfur content of methyl tert-butyl ether, and eventually introduced into gasoline, leading to excessive level of sulfur in gasoline. Most of the study of adsorption desulfurization is about the desulfurization of thiophenes. However, about80%of the total sulfur in the LPG after the Merox process is disulfide. Disulfide is very different from thiophenes in molecular structure. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the adsorbent for adsorption removal of the disulfide.The removal of dimethyl disulfide from model liquefied petroleum gas using modified zeolite as the adsorbent was studied in a fixed-bed adsorption equipment. Effects of carrier, species, preparation method, content of metal oxide, mass space velocity, temperature, as well as adsorption selectivity and regeneration were investigated by performing the breakthrough experiment.The breakthrough experiment result show that, among all these adsorbents,5wt.%Ag2O/NaY showed the highest breakthrough sulfur capacity. The adsorption selectivity of Ag2O/NaY was studied by the infrared spectra and the direct S-Ag(I) interaction might be the essential reason for the evidently improved adsorption ability and selectivity of Ag2O/NaY for removing organic sulfur compounds from solutions containing olefin. Regeneration study indicate that after regeneration in the condition of550℃,8hours and air atmosphere for five times, the adsorbent Ag2O/NaY still show high breakthrough sulfur capacity.
