Groundwater vulnerability assessment methods do not take full account of the pollution sources andlack of effective evaluation method for groundwater pollution sources, this paper based on “pollutionsources-pollution pathway” and made the shallow groundwater as the evaluation object. The mean ofgroundwater pollution risk assessment was used in the process of planning and management of pollutionsources and carry out the study of groundwater pollution sources assessment and classification within thecontaminated sites. Based on the inadequate of the groundwater pollution risk assessmentmethods(including impact factors, evaluation index, weight assignment, quantitative criteria, scope ofapplication, etc.) and the development of the pollution sources load assessment. This study didimprovements and optimizations by drawing on the existing the Overlay and Index method. This paperestablished an evaluation system of the groundrwater pollution source through deeply analyzing the fatorswhich are affected by two kinds of indicators-the degree of pollution source and the vadose zoneantifouling properties, which are based on the improvement and optimization of the existing groundwaterpollution risk assessment methods and evaluation models with groundwater pollution sources and theirnatural conditions. Then determined the quantitative scores and weighted assignments of correspondingindicators by expert scoring method and the analytic hierarchy process, built the evaluation model ofgroundwater pollution sources strength based on Overlay and Index methods, eventually, established amulti-index comprehensive evaluation method for the groundwater pollution sources assessment in typicalcontaminated sites.During the establishment of the the evaluation index system and evaluation model of groundwater pollution sources intensity, this paper put forward two types of indicators-the pollution sources indicatorsand the vadose zone with characteristic index, through observing the process of pollution sources tocontamination pathways. We analyzed the petroleum contaminated sites and non-formal landfill with thebuilt model, the calculated result was6.125and7.41, which showed that the oil venue pollution sourcesand non-formal fill landfill groundwater pollution source intensity were relatively high and high separately.According to the groundwater quality analysis, the result of pollution index is consistent with the result ofthe evaluation, which demonstrated the reliability of the model. So the established method can be applied inthe study of groundwater pollution source intensity assessment and classification management ofcontaminated sites, targeting different kinds of pollutant type and geological conditions, which can alsoprovide theoretical basis and technical support for the reasonable protection and scientific management ofgroundwater source on contaminated site to a certain extent.
