Sugarcane Bagasse cellulose as one of abundant agricultural lignocellulosic byproducts, has attracted great interest in application due to its natural renewable polymers in nature. However, the highly crystalline structure and unable to dissolve in common solvent are the bottleneck of the development of cellulose modification. Therefore, it is very important to improve the method of modification to produce high value-added products and try to turn waste into treasure. In the paper, bagasse cellulose was completely dissolved in the ionic liquid1-butyl-3-methylimidazolim chloride ([BMIM]Cl). The monomer methacrylic acid-N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) was grafted onto the surface of the cellulose in the homogeneous solution by the initiator potassium persulfate (KPS) with the microwave assisted heating and thus a cellulose-g-PDMAEMA copolymer was obtained. The optimal conditions of the reaction system was investigated, and the structure of copolymer was characterized by the Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The kinetic equation of polymerization was established in initial grafted reaction. The self-assembly of cellulose-g-PDMAEMA copolymer at various salt concentrations and pH solution were investigated by means of swelling behavious measurement. Finally, it was applied to the adsorption of the sulfate in the rubber wastewater as an anionic adsorbent. The results were shown that:the monomer of DMAEMA was successfully grafted to the surface of cellulose in the homogeneous system by close to100%within20min and the initial reaction has a higher apparent activation energy with66.373kJ/mol. The cellulose-g-PDMAEMA presented dual pH and salinity-response properties and a reversibility in pH2and pH9solution. The grafted cellulose has a strong adsorbent effect on sulfate adsorption as an anionic adsorbent and was used in rubber waste water, and the0.01g adsorbent could adsorb sulfate content900mg·L-1and1530mg L-1in the rubber wastewater samples, respectively. In this paper, a novel biodegradable pH and salinity-responsive cellulose-g-PDMAEMA copolymer was prepared in homogeneous reaction onto bagasse cellulose by microwave-assisted radical initiation reaction. The kinetic equation of the chemical reaction in the way of microwave-assisted homogeneous system was established within a short period of time. Then its dual response mechanism and sulfate adsorption capacity as an anion adsorbent were also studied. The synthetic strategy would be employed in the modification of other cellulosic biomass to afford new biomaterials with desired properties. And it is great significant for cellulose function modification and the efficient use of renewable resources.
