WEDM-LS grinding is one of the processing and application of WEDM. Because of thehard processing material such as carbide has been widely used in aerospace and militaryindustry, the speed of WEDM-LS grinding development is growing rapidly. However, theEDM discharge process is very complicated, the whole process is influenced by many factors,and the processing mechanism has not yet been fully recognized. Recent years, the domesticand foreign research approach of WEDM has been analyzed in this paper, considering thevarious processing factors on the process of primary and secondary effects, the quadraticorthogonal experiment was designed using range analysis and variance analysis, researchingin the process of WEDM-LS grinding process rule. This is the basis of using the BP neuralnetwork based on genetic algorithms and simulation process.Firstly, this paper summarized the grinding technology and a simple overview andsummary, explained the basic principles and characteristics of WEDM-LS grinding, analyzesof the mainly process specifications and laws of WEDM.Secondly, this paper capture the average gap voltage, electric current and workpiecespeeds as the experimental factors in the WEDM-LS grinding processing problems, throughthe range analysis and variance analysis to find out the primary and secondary factorsaffecting processing technology. The dimension and surface quality of workpiece process ruleare analyzed through quadratic regression model.Finally, compared with the traditional method of modeling, genetic algorithm which hasadaptive optimization searching ability to solve the optimization selection problem of numberof hidden layers in the neural network and hidden layer neurons. After getting the optimalstructure of BP neural network, using genetic algorithm to optimize network’s weights andthresholds, WEDM-LS grinding process model based on genetic neural networks is finallyobtained. This model has the characteristics of simple modeling and strong generalizationcapability, solution to the difficult problem of the EDM processing factors select. Under thecondition of the machining mechanism is not clear, it provides a new way in the research ofprocess.
