Enteromorpha prolifera is a kind of green algae on plant taxonomy. It is grass green, tubular, membranous and edible, which has obvious main branch. It can be as high as1meter. Recently, due to many reason such as global climate change and watereutrophication, the Enteromorpha prolifera green tide has outbroke several times, causing a serious threat to the development of fisheries and tourism. So if it can bemade high value use, not only the ecological problems is solved, but also the economydevelopment is realized. So far, e industrial use of Enteromorpha prolifera is for feedand the researches are mostly concentrated in the polysaccharide, yet chemicalcomposition and activity of its n-butanol extracts were not reported. Therefore, inorder to really turn waste into treasure, the research on the chemical composition andactivity of n-butanol extracts from Enteromorpha prolifera is made in this article. Themain findings are as follows:1. The analysis on the basic nutrients of Enteromorpha prolifera show that it is akind of nature resources as good and healthy food, which is high in protein, low in fatand rich in mineral elements. The proportion between essential amino acids andnon-essential amino acids in all kinds of amino acids is reasonable and its quality inamino acids is high. In addition, the components of the essential oil in Enteromorphaprolifera are studied.35chemical components of essential oil are found. Thehexadecanoic acid(29.68%) has the highest content and the others main componentsare9,12,15-octadecatrien-1-ol,(ZZZ)-(6.96%), squalene(5.57%), Z-11-hexadecenoicacid(4.50%), Z-7-hexadecenoic acid(4.00%),9,12-octadecadienoic acid, methylester(3.14%), heptadecanoic acid(2.83%),1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, diheptylester(2.53%), eicosane(2.48%), hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester(2.47%),isophytol(2.18%),1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, mono(2-ethylhexyl) ester(1.89%), oleic acid(1.48%), heptadecanoic acid,14-methyl-, methyl ester(1.47%). The35compounds occupy82.20%of the total detectable amounts.2. The n-butanol extracts from Enteromorpha prolifera are isolated with solventextraction, column chromatography of silica gel, Sephadex LH-20and preparativeTLC.9compounds are got and6of them are elucidated by TLC, MS,1H-NMR and13C-NMR. They are methylparaben,2’-deoxyuridine, uridine, uracil, hypoxanthineand adenine, which are mainly nucleosides. The uracil has the highest content and themethylparaben is a kind of preservative.3. The protective effect of n-butanol extracts from Enteromorpha prolifera on CCl4and D-GalN induced liver injury in mice is studied. The model was made by CCl4andD-GalN induced liver injury in mice. The liver index, spleen index, AST and ALTlevel in serum, SOD and MDA level in liver were detected to investigate theprotective effect of n-butanol extracts from Enteromorpha prolifera. Compared withmodel group, the middle dose and high dose can significantly inhibit the exaltation ofthe liver index, spleen index, AST and ALT level in serum, and MDA level in liver. The SOD activity is also restored significantly on the3dose groups. The results showthat the n-butanol extracts of Enteromorpha prolifera can significantly reduce acuteliver injury induced by CCl4and D-GalN.
