The rapid development of industrialization not only brought us huge economic benefits, but also caused serious environmental pollution. Mercury pollution has increasingly become a widespread topic of people’s concern. Mercury is a chemical substance which has a great physiological toxicity,Any form of mercury that exist in the environment can turn into highly poisonous methyl mercury under certain conditions, which can cause serious damage to human health. The largest source of mercury emissions in atmosphere is coal-fired power plants.Our country is the world’s largest coal producer,84%of the coal is used for combustion which caused serious environmental pollution.China is currently the world’s most mercury polluted country.Our country’s technology for removing gaseous elemental mercury generally lag behind, so research efficient and cost-effective technology for removing gaseous elemental mercury is urgently needed.Studies have found that change common active carbon by loading sulfur, iodine and other elemental in its surface can make the activated carbon surface form a new activity.The affinity of these substances with mercury is stronger than the affinity of carbon with mercury which can react with mercury to generate more stable HgS, HgI2, etc, these substances are prior to chemical adsorption of mercury which can greatly improve the efficiency for removing gaseous elemental mercury.This paper studied on the preparation of sulfur-loaded activated carbons and iodine-loaded activated carbons. The previous preparation of sulfur-loaded activated carbons and iodine-loaded activated carbons has the characteristics of high toxicity, high energy consumption, high requirements for equipment and the serious problems of environmental pollution. Thus we put forward a kind of method for preparation of sulfur-loaded activated carbons and iodine-loaded activated carbons which is simple operated, economic and environmentally friendly.And determined the best conditions for the preparation of sulfur-loaded activated carbons was choose carbon tetrachloride adsorption value was60,impregnated24h,when the S/C was14%,the sulfur loading content can reach10.89%,the solvent recovery can reach90%.And determined the best conditions for the preparation of iodine-loaded activated carbons by using carbon tetrachloride, adsorption value was85,impregnated20h,when the1/C was10%, sulfur loading content can reach9.77%.Finally, designed the technology route, and carried on the simple technical and economic evaluation which was proved that this technology was suitable for application in industrial production; this technological conditions not only can solve the problem of mercury pollution from coal-fired flue gas, but also has certain economic value.
