With the successful development of white LED research and industrializedproduction since1998, LED lighting technology has a wide range of applications. Buthigher requirements have been addressed to LED package technology, such as higherUV resistance, higher heat resistance, and lower cost. As the main component of LEDpackaging resin, bisphenols A epoxy resin has excellent performance on light-transparent, mechanical strength, insulativity, heat resistance and other capability whichbeen required by lighting package. Since the molecular of bisphenol A type epoxy resincontains an aromaticring, which can absorb ultraviolet rays, the aromatic ring will beoxidized to the carbonyl chromophore after the ultraviolet irradiation causingdiscoloration of the resin. This problem can affect the quality of the LED seriously. Thispaper is focused on the light fades and transmittance decline of bisphenol A-type epoxyresins caused by UV. Nano-zinc oxide will be compounded with epoxy resin to absorband scatter UV, which can improve UV resistance of epoxy resin. This work includesthe following sections:1: The synthesis of the zinc oxide nano particle with the diameter about20nm bychemical precipitation with sodium carbonate and zinc nitrate. The diameter of zincoxide particles were, according to the calculation of XRD and SEM, about21nm.2: The synthesis of composite of epoxy and nano-zinc oxide. Nano-zinc oxide particleswere dispersed in a resin matrix, EP-44, through mechanical shearing and ultrasonicvibration. Composite was tested by UV spectrophotometer after curing.3: Nano-zinc oxide powder was added into the epoxy matrix, and then was applied tothe actual packaging process of the LED lights."Eagles " packaging mode was chosento produce a finished lamp. The finished LED will be used in light-emittingperformance testing, including luminous flux, luminous intensity, luminous angle andthe light fades cycle performance indicators. According to the actual measurementresults, the effect of nano-zinc oxide powder was discussed.
