Carbon fiber composite materials are widely used in many areas ofproduction and living because of its superior to other fiber reinforced materialsin high strength, high modulus, corrosion resistance, fa tigue resistance, lowdensity, high temperature resisitance. With the development of aerospace, windenergy and automotive industry, the demand for high temperature carbon fiberreinforced composites is increasing, the applications of carbon of fiberreinforced polymer matrix composites in high temperature environments becomea goal to pursue after the pursuit of light requirement.Carbon/epoxy (CF/EP) composite materials are widely used in aerospaceequipments because of its various excellent properties, but generally the epoxysizing agent matched with resin does not exceed the180℃heat resistancetemperature, most of the materials need to work under the environment of250℃high temperature in the aviation sector. At present, the high-temperature resistantof resin matrix and carbon fiber reinforcement can meet the requirements, theheat resistance of the whole composite material largely limited by the surfacesizing agent of carbon fiber. Therefore, the research of high temperaturecomposite materials directly points to the development of the high temperaturesizing agent.This topic applied polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) with highheat resistance, surface area, more reactive groups to modify waterborne epoxyemulsion, and tested the performance of the sizing agent emulsion and the effectof carbon fibers. The results showed that sizing agent prepared by mixing withthe epoxy resin displayed the best stability, sizing coating improved surfacemorphology of the carbon fibers effectively; carbon fibers could be improved toincrease the wettability with the resin matrix, enhance the mechanical propertiesof carbon fibers; the modified epoxy emulsion began to decompose at about300℃under argon. The interfacial strength of CF/EP monofilament compositemodified by three sizing agent with POSS was only decreased by10.1%,7.3%and6.0%after heat treatment at280℃for5h; the decreasing degree of erosionincreased because of the erosion of moisture on interface in the hydrothermalenvironment, but interfacial strength recovered partly after drying performancein the resistance to hydrothermal aging test, the interface of CF/EP coated by the0435-based POSS sizing agent showed optimum tolerance as well. The researchof high temperature resistant epoxy emulsion sizing agent will contribute to the applications of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composites in the fields of aviationfields.
