To the best of our knowledge, many researches have been conducted in the fieldof superabsorbent composites with clays, but study on electric stimuli response ofthem were less reported up to now. In this work, the amount of inorganic mineralpowder an important role in affecting water absorbent ability and electricalresponsive of hydrogel.poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA), methacrylatoethyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(DMC), acrylamide (AM), N-isopropyacryamide (NIPAM) are raw materials andkaoline is used as filler in this report. The water absorbency, electrical sensitivity, pHsensitivity, thermosensitive of hydrogel would change, when the monomer ratio, kaoline, the concentration of NaCl aqueous solutions, pH, temperature and electricfield are changed. The structure of hydrogel is investigated by FTIR and SEM.The electrical responsive and pH-responsive PVA/PDMC/kaoline hydrogelcomposite is synthesized by aqueous solution two-step polymerization method, thishydrogel has three dimensional porous structure. The equilibrium swelling ratio, bending speed and equilibrium bending angle of hydrogel increase with an increase inthe DMC content. The swelling ratio increases with the amount of kaoline increasesfrom0to0.4wt.%, and further increasing the amount of kaoline the swelling ratio ofthe composite decreases. The hydrogel exhibits a good reversible bending behaviorwith on-off switching of electric field at30V. The maximum equilibrium bendingangle of the hydrogel composite, DMC:AM=1:1, containing0.4wt%kaoline,0.5wt%NMBA,1.0wt%APS, reached to96°in0.02wt%NaCl solution at30V.The electrical responsive and pH-responsive PAM/PDMC/kaoline hydrogelcomposite is synthesized by aqueous solution two-step polymerization method, thishydrogel has three dimensional network structure with a suitable crosslinking degree. The equilibrium swelling ratio, deswelling ratio of hydrogel increase with an increasein the DMC content. The deswelling water ratio increases as the amount of kaolineincreases from0to5wt.%. However, when the kaoline content is beyond5wt.%, theelectrical sensitivity of the composite decrease with further increasing kaoline content. This hydrogel composite (DMC:AM=1:1,0.5wt%NMBA,1.0wt%APS,5wt%kaoline) can absorb1116times water and exhibits a volume constriction of85.5%under an applied voltage of30V.The electrical responsive and thermo-responsive PDMC/PINPAM/kaolinehydrogel composite is synthesized by aqueous solution two-step polymerizationmethod, this hydrogel has three dimensional network structure with a suitablecrosslinking degree. The equilibrium swelling ratio, deswelling ratio of hydrogelincrease with an increase in the DMC content, however, the thermo-sensitivity ofhydrogel decrease with an increase in the DMC content and LCST move to hightemperature. The swelling ratio and deswelling ratio increases with the amount ofkaoline increases from0to0.2wt.%, further increasing the amount of kaoline theswelling ratio and deswelling ratio of the composite decreases. This hydrogelcomposite (DMC=4wt%,0.5wt%NMBA,1.0wt%APS,0.2wt%kaoline) canabsorb30times water and exhibits a volume constriction of27%under an appliedvoltage of30V.
