Zirconium is a rare metal with amazing corrosion resistance, high melting point, highhardness and strength characteristics, it has become an important new structural materials,Zirconium are widely used in industry, medical science, chemical engineering ect. However, the zirconium have low hardness, poor wear resistance and corrosion resistance which limitstheir more applications. Surface treatment techniques are very effective ways to improveindustrial pure zirconium’s tribological properties.Zirconium oxide and its products have excellent physical and chemical properties hightemperature, wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant inorganic non-metallic materials. Departurefrom the organizational structure of the metal zirconium, for the purpose of performance ofzirconium oxide, programmed1008box-type electric furnace, set the heating temperature andholding time, the metal zirconium, and deal with the organizational structure before and afterchanges in friction and wear properties were studied.Using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) testing, analysis of changes in organizational structure of zirconium metal in the high-temperatureoxidation. The results show that the metal zirconium (Zr) structural changes occurred afterhigh-temperature oxidation treatment, to generate three kinds of crystal (ZrO2): monoclinic,tetragonal-cubic-type, which mainly to monoclinic.Friction and wear tests on zirconium metal before and after treatment using the MM-200wear test machine, and the sample surface morphology analysis by scanning electronmicroscopy. The results showed that friction and wear process, mainly adhesive wear zirconiasample of700℃in5hour after the metal has the highest surface hardness, small amount ofwear, the wear resistance of the best. The hardness test results show that, within a certainrange, with the increase in oxidation temperature, time extension, hardness was significantlyincreased, the thickness of the zirconium oxide film thickening, friction and wear propertiesis also rising. We observe the surface morphology of the sample and its weight changes after We putthe sample which were processed including the industrial pure zirconium as contrast sample into25%Hcl solution. Finally, The corrosion resistance of the zirconium sample in25%HClsolution significantly improves by thermal oxidation. It was the best at700℃in5hour.
