As TC4titanium alloy have several advantages compared to other metallic materials, such ashigh corrosion resistance, high specific strength and good compatibility with human body, etc.Therefore, bars made by titanium alloy have been widely used in petroleum, chemical industry,national defense, medicine, aviation, etc. So, more and more domestic and foreign manufacturesare paying attention to the titanium alloy rod and wire straightening technology. However, it’sdifficult to be straightened under room temperature as a result of TC4titanium alloy’s high yieldstrength, small modulus of elasticity and serious spring-back under that condition. At the same time,relevant research is quite rare in domestic, so the research for TC4alloy wire rod straighteningprocess has great practical significance.Based on the analysis of TC4titanium alloys mechanical properties from room temperature tohigh temperature and the classical straightening theory, this paper mainly studied theelastic-plastic behavior of TC4titanium alloy wire during straightening process, relationshipbetween intermesh and residual curvature ratio and residual stress distribution through the methodsof theoretical calculation, numerical simulation and experiment. This research can provide someguidance for titanium alloy wire rod straightening in some degree.At first, the paper summarized existing straightening theories, especially parallel rollerstraightening principle and induced theoretical calculation method of parallel roller straightening.Then preliminarily determined the structure parameters of the titanium alloy thermal straighteningdevice according to the existing parallel roller straightening device structure size and theoreticalcalculations. After that, parallel roller straightening process parameters under different temperaturewere calculated by using MATLAB GUI software platform. And numerical simulation of thestraightening process with ABAQUS commercial finite element software was used to verify therationality of the structure parameters and the theoretically calculated process parameters. Thedetailed design of titanium alloy parallel roller thermal straightening system was done on the basisof the comprehensively analysis of MATLAB calculation and the numerical simulation results.Finally,two deformation strategies were applied to do the straightening experiments under700℃.With the research made above, elastic-plastic deformation rule of the TC4titanium alloy in theprocess of straightening was summarized. At the same time, a software based on MATLAB was developed to calculate the process parameters. And then a simple device for titanium alloystraightening was designed according to the theoretical calculations and numerical simulation.Finally, appropriate corrections to the MATLAB programs were made in order to applying thetheoretical calculations into the actual straightening process by comparing the actual straighteningexperiment process parameters with MATLAB GUI calculated parameters which have met thestraightness accuracy requirement.
