In this paper, from the point of view of molecular design three series of compounds containing the benzimidazole group have been synthetized. By changing the molecular structure(Benzimidazol1,2and3for the function modification), their biological activity and the ability to gel have been regulated successful. Respectively, we obtained2-phenoxymethyl biscarboxyl-functionalized benzimidazole derivative,2-pentadecyl biscarboxyl-functionalized benzimidazole derivative (multiple responses metal-organic gels and their adsorption of the dye) and bis-Schiff-Base functionalized long-chain alkyl benzimidazole derivative (selective recognition of anions as gelator). The main conclusions are as follows:Section1This section mainly summarized the application of Benzimidazole derivatives and the research progress of supramolecular gels respectively.Section2Nine new2-phenoxymethyl biscarboxyl-functionalized benzimidazole derivative have been synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR spectra. The single crystal structures of the compound2-phenoxymethyl-1-carboxymethyl benzimidazole were determined by X-ray diffraction. The biological activity of the nine compounds have been tested, the result showed that the compounds have plant growth regulating activity and antibacterial activity.Section3Supramolecular metallogels containing Pb(II) have been synthesized throught the reaction of D15and Pb(NO3)2. From the study we found that D15-Pb complexation was proposed as the primary gel-forming force. The resulting gels display a good stimuli-responsive to pH, EDTA, Na2S and NH3·H2O. In addition, the metallogels also shows a tendency in effective methyl orange dye removal agent.. So, this metallogels have the potential to be exploited for the development of new smart soft materials. Section4Six new2-long-chain alkyl bis-Schiff-Base functionalized benzimidazole derivative have been synthesized and characterized by IR, NMR spectra. Compound I15can form a gel in a variety of solvents, the study found that hydrogen bonding is the main driving force for the formation of a gel, it display a good responsive to F-CH3COO-and H2PO4-. We also measured its UV absorption spectra and fluorescence emission spectra, and the same results showed that, I15in DMSO achieved dual channel identification to the three ions on UV absorption spectra and fluorescence emission spectra.
