As the important structures in the activated sludge system, secondary sedimentationtanks play an important role in the sewage treatment process. The integrated design ofContinuous-flow Integrated Biological Reactor (CIBR) makes the difference between thesettling zone and secondary sedimentation tanks. In order to understand profoundly theworking mechanism of the whole system of CIBR, the paper studies mainly the materialvariation, establish the models of particulates and solutes, and verify the reliability of themodels by theoretical and experimental methods.Firstly, the sludge movement at the upper deflector hole was analyzed by the imagingmethod, and the mathematical model of the sludge velocity was drawn by the forms ofcurve fitting and normal distribution. Secondly, based on the idea of the sludge particlesdiscretization, considering the force in the water of sludge particles, and using the velocityby the form of normal distribution as the initial condition, a new model was raised todescribe the special settlement process in the settling zone of CIBR. The simulation resultshows that: the free settlement is major, the area of flocculation settlement is small, thecongestion settlement does not occur basically, and there is no compression settlement atthe settling zone of CIBR. Finally, using the velocity and the concentration of solutes bythe form of curve fitting as the initial condition, and based on the MATLAB platform, themodeling program was complied to simulate the variation of solutes in the settling zone ofCIBR, and was verified by the experiment. The simulation results show that: using theaverage of the solutes concentration as the judge, the program is good for the simulationof phosphate, following is nitrate, and it is relatively poor for ammonia nitrogen; using thevariance of the solutes concentration as the judge, the relatively better values of therandom velocity variance for ammonia nitrogen, nitrate and phosphate are7.5×A0,5.5×A0and4.5×A0.
