This study has explored degradation of corn stalk into furan derivatives (such as5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), furfural (FF) and so on) in ZnCl2solution, in the solutionwith synergy of ZnCl2and other metal chlorides, and in the reaction medium of binarymetal chlorides. Moreover, in the mixed organic solvents and salt solution, the effects oforganic solvents, the volume ratio (R) of organic solvents to TiCl3/ZnCl2solution, pHvalue, corn stalk content, reaction temperature and time were investigated successively. In aqueous salt media, the reaction temperature of200°C, the corn stalk of2g, theZnCl2concentration of38%, and the reaction time of75min was clearly better reactionconditions for the degradation of corn stalk into HMF and FF, and the yields HMF and FFreached6.31%and2.75%, however, in the same reaction conditions, the results withpurified water for the yields of HMF and FF were only0.17%and0.0031%, thus, the yieldsof HMF and FF in ZnCl2solution were improved6.14%and2.7469%. In the same reactionconditions, when the mass fraction of TiCl3in binary metal chlorides was0.5%, the yieldsof HMF and FF could reach10.81%and4.66%, these product yields were, respectively,1.71and1.69times of those obtained from ZnCl2solution, the results indicated that binarymetal chlorides are better than single metal chloride for the degradation of corn stalk intofuran derivatives. In mixed organic solvents and salt solution, the38%ZnCl2volume of50mL, theTiCl3mass fraction of0.5%in the binary metal chlorides, the solution pH of3, the cornstalk of2g, the volume ratio (R) of2-PrOH to TiCl3/ZnCl2solution of0.3:9.7, reactiontemperature of200°C and the reaction time of80min was clearly better reactionconditions for the degradation of corn stalk into HMF and FF, and the yields HMF and FFreached15.56%and11.54%, these product yields were, respectively1.44and2.48times ofthose obtained from the TiCl3/ZnCl2solution without any organic solvent.
