Polymer micro-spheres are that the average diameter of nano-to micron-size, the shape isspherical or other geometry of the polymer material or polymer composites. Large size,mono-disperse, different patterns and surfaces functional polymer micro-spheres are widelyused as a frame general polymer materials in standards and metrology, intelligenceinformation, medical immunology, biochemistry and column filler due to its large specificsurface area, strong adsorption, high gathering and high reaction efficiency. Therefore thesynthesis of polymer micro-spheres and application has been more and more attention. The impact of polymer micro-spheres is a major factor in the application of the size andsize distribution. The polystyrene micro-spheres with average diameter of10.06μm were successfullyprepared through dispersion polymerization method with St as the monomer, AIBN as theinitiator, PVP as the stabilizer, and ethanol/water as the dispersion medium. And themicro-spheres were also examined by SEM, PSA and IR analysis. The results indicated thatthese polystyrene micro-spheres exhibited excellent mono-disperse property. The cross-linking polystyrene micro-spheres is uniform particle size. The micro-spheres were successfully prepared by the seed swelling polymerization method with the seeds that prepared in the first step (0.86μm in diam). The results indicated that the resultant micro-spheres possessed good mono-disperse property by SEM, PSA and IR analysis. The cross-linking polystyrene micro-spheres were successfully prepared by the seedswelling polymerization method with the seeds that prepared in the first step (0.91μm indiam). The resultant particles were also detected by SEM, and the results indicated that thesemicro-spheres also kept good excellent particle sphericity and mono-disperse property.
