N-methylaminoethanol series products, which are a kind of important fine chemical product are widely used in chemical industry, environmental, food and pharmaceutical industries. These products include N-methylaminoethanol (MMEA), N-Methyl diethanolamine (MDEA) and N,N-dimethylethanolamine (DMEA). This series of products are mainly synthesized by two methods, one approach is the ethylene oxide (EO) ring-opening reaction, and another is N-methylation of ethanol amine. My focus of the research is the reaction conditions, catalyst and process of these two approaches. The specific contents are as follows:N-methylaminoethanol products were synthesized by ring-opening reaction using ethylene oxide with methylamine or dimethylamine. In this work, I investigated the effect of substrate feeding ratio reaction temperature and pressure and substrate on the ethylene oxide (EO) ring-opening reaction, and also investigated the effect of different catalysts on the reaction. The optimum conditions is the ratio of methylamine:ethylene oxide=3:1, reaction temperature and pressure are respectively135℃and2.2MPa, the substrate is the pure monomethylamine and dimethylamine, the catalyst is ZSM-5molecular sieve and the highest yield is96.5%.I also investigated the N-methylation of ethanol amine method, and focused on the synthesis and development of catalyst. A new Cs-B-Zr mixed oxide amphoteric mesoporous catalyst was found, and the catalyst was analyzed by XRD, ICP-MS, SEM/TEM, TPD, FTIR and BET characterizations. At the same time, the process condition of the synthesis of N-methylaminoethanol with Cs-B-Zr catalyst was discussed. The optimum conditions are as followed:the Cs-B-Zr Catalyst Doped ratio is1:1:1, the reaction temperature and pressure are220℃and4.3MPa, the feeding ratio of alcoholamine:methanol=1:3. The best conversion and yield is93.2%and90%.
