With construction scale enlargement of the mining, hydropower project,transportation and defense engineering, underground rock engineering has developedto the new stage. Many fields, such as urban-rural construction, hydropower project,transportation, and mining, involve in soft rock problems. The stability and supportmethod of soft rock in underground engineering have become the key problemsurgently needed to be solved. In the choice of support strength, it has attracted muchattention that how to make the project cost effective while guaranteeing the stabilityof the underground cavern of soft rock.This article is based on HuaYuan coal mine, and in this paper, the action principleof surrounding rock and support, the basic principle and the key time of undergroundengineering support, and technical standard of support strength in underground cavernabout lower confining pressure controlling will be discussed in theory. Besides, thispaper analyzes the feasibility of soft rock underground cavern with lower confiningpressure controlling measures, and the accuracy is obtained by the analysis of thepractical supporting data under low confining pressure control in underground cavernof HuaYuan coal mine. Traditional mechanics experiment about the mudstoneexcavated from HuaYuan coal mine were executed on SAW-2000electro-hydraulicservo-controlled rock mechanics testing system, it analyzes the basic mechanicalproperties of mudstone and the evolutionary rules of failure system. With the result ofmechanics properties experiment of rock applied to numerical modeling on stability ofsoft rock underground cavern with lower confining pressure controlling measures, tomake up the short of rock samples. The comparison between these two results and thepractical supporting data under low confining pressure control in underground caverndemonstrate that this method have practical values.
