The article sketched out the coal resources of China, Chinese classification of coking coal and its coking characteristics, coal rock technology and its application.The thermal properties of metallurgical coke, the deterioration process in blast furnace and deterioration factors were discussed. The principle and method of coal blending of conventional coal index and coal petrography, analysis of the shortcomings of the conventional coal blending were introduced. Coal petrography blending is based upon the coal petrograp hic constituents and reflectance spectra, which as the basic data of blended coal and coke quality prediction. Then, the coal maceral is divided into the active components and the inert components, calculating the ratio of active component and inert component. Next, drawing the diagram of the index SI or the composition of the equilibrium constant (CBI) and the coke strength diagram, to guide the coke quality prediction and determination of coal blending ratio. Our group carried a series of experimental studies, including lean coal instead of charred coal, coking without fat coal, coking with a large proportion of gas coal, coking with dust, etc. The results indicated that the experiments were successful. The remarkable results were achieved in the production of coke oven. Relying on coal and test coke oven, fully using of coal blending technology, actively developing low price of coal resources, The coke quality has been stabled and the cost of coke has been reduced.
