The carbonization of lignite was investigated. TG and DTG analysis techniques were adopted to study the pyrolysis, blend coal combustion and3000t/a pilot scale experiments. The effects of heating rate and holding time on pyrolysis process were studied in the pyrolysis experiments. It indicates that the increase of holding time influence more on Yunnan coal and anthracites. The higher heating rate, the more remarkable weightlessness peak is. Thermogravimetric analysis experiment on the coal blends indicates the combustion characteristics of coal blends were reduced first and then improved. The paper introduces the structure and the product features of the3000t/a pilot scale experiments. The influence of particle size and temperature on the products is discussed. It is shown that the rate of heat increases as the temperature increase. The results also show that the volatilization content in char increases and the tar increases at the beginning, then decreases with pyrolytic temperature becoming higher. The yields of tar and gas increase with increasing coal particle diameter, in contrast to the volatilization content in char.
