With the development of scientific and technological progress, the functionalpolymer microspheres caused widespread concern. In this paper, a core-shell poly(styrene-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) copolymer with well dispersibility was synthesizedby emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization. And the particles size was between400to500nanometers. By study the effect of hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) anddivinylbenzene (DVB) on the particle size, overall conversion and crosslinking degree ofpoly (styrene-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) copolymer microspheres, the optimalproduction conditions were determined as11%~13%and1%~5%(based on the styreneweight), respectively.Firstly, using the poly (styrene-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) copolymer as modifyingagent, the iron tailings as aggregate and eco-cement as binding materials, a polymermodified adhesive mortar was prepared. The influences of polymer type, HEMA content, crosslinking agent and the polymer morphology on the mortar’s adhesion property wereinvestigated. Finally, a high performance polymer modified bonding mortar was preparedand all of its properties reached the national standard. Then, using the poly (styrene-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) copolymer microsphereas the matrix, different polymer brushes were grafted on it by ARGET ATRP ofmethacrylate (MMA), Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidylmethacrylate (TMPM). The prepared polymer brushes included PMMA, PGMA andPMTM homopolymer brushes and P(MMA-b-TMPM), P(MMA-b-GMA) blockcopolymer brushes. These brushes retained the matrix particle type in some degree, butappeared various conglutinations due to different brushes length. At last, polymer brushes containing nitroxide radical unit (TEMPO) were preparedthrough two different methods of oxidization and direct load. With NaClO as the oxidant,The catalytic properties of nitroxide polymer brushes for selective oxidation of benzylalcohol were investigated and the P(MMA-b-TMA) brush gave the best catalyticperformance. The catalyst system was easy to recycle, and the yield did not fallsignificantly after5cycles.
