In war, if the diesel fuel of army armored vehicles have good fire resistant and explosion suppression functions is bound to largely improve the protection and survival capabilities of equipment. In this paper, the mentioned fire resistant and explosion suppression diesel (FED) refers to the diesel that has the engine performance similliar with the base fuel, the fire-resistance properties leading to nonignition or self-extinguishment, and the explosion suppression characters resulting in nonbombing or less explosive hazard obviously when detonated during the fire attacks. Meanwhile, the experiment of physical and chemical properties, fire-resistance characters and explosive suppression performance of FED were conducted, and the engine bench test was carried out to evaluate dynamic and energy-saving performance of C4and S4. The main work and conclusions are as follows:(1) Experimental results show that all FED meet the requirements of GJB3075-97military regulations, which were prepared by different variety of emulsifier and cosurfactant, different mass fraction of water and different explosion suppression agent content.(2) When the variety and amount of emulsifier and cosurfactant are fixed, the distribution of particle size of water in oil (W/O) becomes wider and the distribution uniformity gets worse with the increase of mass fraction of water in FED. While the variety and amount of emulsifier and mass fraction of water are fixed, the average particle size becomes smaller and distribution more uniform with the use of suitable cosurfactant.(3) Without explosion suppression agent in the FED, The largest decline of the maximum explosion pressure is E3, which reduced by22.8%compared with-10#military diesel. While the maximum explosion pressure is only0.18MPa of S4which is added5000ppm explosion suppression agent, a decrease of68.4%compared with-10#military diesel.(4) The results of experiments of external characteristic show that compared with-10#military diesel, torque of C4and S4dropped by an average of2.7%and2.8%, and power dropped by an average of2.9%and2.8%, respectively. Under the condition of load characteristic test at2000r/min, the fuel consumption rate of C4and S4has raised13.5%and8.9%compared with ordinary military diesel, raised15.9%and12.7%at1800r/min, raised9.2%and8.4%at1300r/min, respectively.
