The machine tool table and other moving parts usually bear a high dynamic loading in thehigh-speed cutting process. That requires those structures must have a good static and dynamicperformance, as well as a high stiffness. And it was well known that aluminum foam material islight and has some excellent performance such as the resistance of vibration, high damping andstiffness strength in ratio etc, which has been confirmed by experiments through those previousresearches. So there is a feasible scheme that added the aluminum foam metal and its compositematerials to machine basic parts in order to improving the mechanical properties of structureswhich is a key technical problem in the manufacturing process.Taken the VF1type machining center which produced by Hass company as the prototype, amoving table with aluminum foam-filled structure was designed. It took cast iron material as ashell and aluminum foam as filled material. The simplified beam is analyzed according to thetheories of mechanics of materials. The results indicate that its flexibility, strength and stiffnesswere meeting the design requirements, and were much quality lighter and quicker than prototypestructure of cast iron.The static and dynamic performances of tables were analyzed in numerical simulation byANSYS finite element software. The inherent frequency of table with aluminum foam-filledstructure was improved, while its maximum response amplitude was reduced, so its structureplaying a positive role in reducing the vibration of system.When it comes to the fatigue life and reliability of tables, there can be shown that somefactors which influence the service life should be exterminated, the reliability of table withaluminum foam-filled structure under the loading with constant amplitude also been confirmed.The shape of table with aluminum foam-filled structure was optimized by ANSYS.Obtaining the optimal design scheme and its dynamic performance and quality were analyzed.The superiority of table with aluminum foam-filled structure would be obvious and verified bythat optimized process.
