As the performance of electrode control of electric arc furnace (EAF) directly effects the utilization of energy, labor productivity and loss of the EAF, it is critical to have a strict demanding of Electrode regulating system. For more rapidity and sensitivity, scientists in this field still working hard and applying new methods and theories to the electrode regulating system.Based on a great deal of documents related with the EAF, the thesis firstly describes the development and benefits of electric arc furnace used in steel-making, besides other steel making equipments and its process, and then the status and development trend of EAF used in steel-making as well as arc furnace electrode regulating system are summarized.After the introduction of how does every aspect of the electric arc furnace works, this thesis respectively established models of the electric arc,the power supply system and the hydraulic system, and then gives these models’ simulation verification. After established the electrode regulating system model, this system can be classified as affine nonlinear systems By simplifying.Aim at the non-linear and time-varying characteristics of EAF, the thesis designs a electrode lifting controller based on predictive functional control.At last, the thesis simulates the electrode regulating system with the MATLAB software, the results show that the predictive function controller is an effective solution for the non-linear and time-varying problems of EAF, and it has achieved the desired results.
