Microsized rare earth borates have wide application in Hg-free fluorescent lamps and plasma display panels due to their stable physical and chemical properties and excellent luminescent properties. In this dissertation, uniform monodisperse rare earth borates have been synthesized by hydrothermal method.First, the uniform monodisperse YBO3:Eu3+/Tb3+microspheres were synthesized via a facile ethylene glycol-mediated hydrothermal method. The diameter of the microspheres is about10μm. Temperature and pH value had a great influence on the size and morphology of the products. Ethylene glycol played an extremely critical role in the morphology. YBO3:Eu3+and YBO3:Tb3+exhibited strong orange and green emissions under ultraviolet excitation, respectively.Besides, the flower-like Y3BO6:Eu3+microspheres with diameter of1μm were prepared through a glycerol-mediated hydrothermal route and followed by a calcination process. CH3COONa was used as buffer reagent. Flower-like structure was formed by the assembly of nanosheets. The roles of CH3COONa and glycerol were irreplaceable. In the emission spectra of Y3BO6:Eu3+, the5Do-7F2transition played dominant role. Therefore, the sample has a high ratio of red-orange.
