At present, CM rubber was used in wire and cable industry, and by the provisions of the industry, it must achieve a high standard of combustion. As a kind of new type flame retardant, silicon flame retardants had a good flame retardant effect, and could improve the physical properties of the materials. Therefore, in this paper, the application of silicon flame retardants in CM rubber was studied. The effect of silicon retardants on the performances of CM rubber was researched by tensile test, oxygen index, vertical flame, thermal weight loss and SEM. The results included four parts:(1) By adding DBDPE, Sb2O3separately, the oxygen index of the materials increased significantly, and reached30.2%and30.8%respectively. The vertical combustion of materials added silicon retardants could reach V-0level. OSFR reacted with base material and formed charcoal. NSFR absorbed small molecules material generated, at the same time, reflected radiant heat.(2) When various flame retardants were added in CM/Sb2O3; we found that ZnB could improve the release speed of HCl, the combustion performance of base material added with DBDPE was improved, but there was no synergy. After adding silicon flame retardant, there was no synergy, too.(3) When added NSFR into CM/Sb2O3/DBDPE base material, the oxygen index of the material was almost the same, the physical mechanical properties declined obviously, and the vertical combustion reached V-0level. When the ratio of DBDPE:3:NSFR=1:2.5:1.5, the combustion performance of the material was the best, oxygen index was30.2%, the vertical combustion reached V-0level, there was no coordinated response, on the contrary, a deterioration response.(4) When various flame retardants were added in CM/Sb2O3/ZnB, for NSFR, there was no obvious synergy, and formed porous charcoal. OSFR could obviously promote the release of HCl of the base material. There existed gas phase synergistic flame retardant effect between OSFR and Sb2O3/ZnB. When CM/Sb2O3cooperated with NSFR and OSFR, there was obvious synergy into the coal. The generated carbon showed an aggregate structure. When filled with silicon flame retardant, there was gas phase synergistic flame retardant effect between OSFR and ZnB. There was a carbon solid flame retardant effect between OSFR and NSFR, generated stable carbon layer which owned a compact structure. When ZnB:OSFR:NSFR=1:0.5:1, the combustion properties of the material was the best, the oxygen index was35.4%, the vertical combustion reached V-0level. The tensile strength,100%stretch stress and hardness increased slightly, and the tensile elongation increased about65%.
