Abstract:The Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) is a typically perovskite polycrystalline structure (ABO3) piezoelectric ceramic, it’s widely used because of the excellent piezoelectric and electromechanical coupling properties, but the hard and brittle properties limited it’s application range. Piezoelectric fiber composites inherited the high coupling effect of piezoelectric phase and low impedance of polymer phase, overcome the shortcomings in terms of strength and brittleness of pure ceramics, has a outstanding performance in anisotropy and high electromechanical coupling coefficient, high piezoelectric coefficient, low dielectric constant and low density, so it has important applications in medical ultrasound, ultrasonic transducer, nondestructive testing and other fields. As the function phase, piezoelectric fibers determined the1-3type piezoelectric composite’s final performance. Therefore, the preparation of piezoelectric fibers is very important in the whole process. Because of the poor performance of piezoelectric fibers prepared by traditional methods, therefore, this paper mainly studied the optimization of preparation process of PZT piezoelectric fiber, using the hollow PZT firing powder prepared by spray granulation process instead of ball milling powder, have got good performance fibers. Characterized the fiber’s performance through1-3piezoelectric composites. Paper main work and results obtained are as follows:(1) Through the characterization of PZT-51bulk ceramics prepared by pre-sintering and sintered powder, after contrast, the pre-sintering powder has good liquidity and performance, so choose PZT-51pre-sintering powder for preparing PZT piezoelectric fibers.(2) Viscous plastic processing is used to obtain the high solid content and high visco-plastic PZT sludge. After mould press won the green fiber with200microns in diameter, contrasts the phases, micro-structures and properties of the fibers sintered at different temperature, Results showed that the optimum fibre sintering process is1250℃insulation1h, the fiber density is7.3g/cm-3, the piezoelectric coefficient of up to573 pC·N-1.(3) The1-3type piezoelectric fibre composite material with volume fraction of50%were obtained through the arrangement-pouring method, the performances have been characterized. Results show that the1-3type piezoelectric composites made by the fibers sintered at1250℃has the highest piezoelectric coefficient, d33is382pC·N-1, thickness mode electromechanical coupling factor kt is0.58, radial mode electromechanical coupling coefficient kp is0.30. Effectively suppressed the radial mode of vibration, energy is focused on thickness mode vibration and improved the resolution of the transducer.
