The polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the most widely used polymer in textileand other applications fields, it’s about72.51million tons of PET production all over theworld in2010, included a output of30million tons in China. So increasing PET leads to alarge amount of waste PET, the recycling of waste PET have been researched by a lot ofresearchers and experts. Rigid polyurethane foam (PUF) with its excellent performance, suchas low density, high wear resistance, good shock absorption performance, etc., have been usedin many fields. At the same time, because of its thermal conductivity is lower than otherinsulating material, it’s used for thermal insulation material of buildings, refrigerator, freezerbox, cold storage, refrigerated trucks. However, the rigid PUF belongs to flammable materials, flame spread speed quickly and high heat release rate, from the view of security, synthesisresearch of the flame-retarding rigid PUF is an irresistabe trend. In the thesis, the BHET, which is the degradation product of the waste polyester (PET),polyisocyanate, water and other reaction mixtures are prepared, and APP as flame retardantsis added in the process of flame-retarding rigid PUF. Limiting oxygen index (LOI) offlame-retarding rigid PUF was studied by using oxygen index instrument. It is show that LOIof the flame-retarding rigid PUF meet a criterion of the non-flammability when50percent(mass relative BHET) flame retardance is added in flame-retarding rigid PUF.When additiveamount of flame retardant is60percent (mass relative BHET) smoke density rating decreasedsignificantly in the combustion process. The structure of the foam is characterized by usingthe infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), and discussed the reaction of foaming process. Density andcompressive strength of rigid PUF with different flame retardants additives are tested andcompared. Melting point and thermal stability are also tested by differential scanningcalorimeter (DSC) and Thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA).And the next, proportion of BHET and polyisocyanate, water and other technologyconditions are also discussed in the paper. It is show that the proper weight ratio of BHET,polyisocyanate and deionized should be2.45:1:0.1, that of the catalyst stannousoctoate andthe surfactant simethicone are0.115:0.08, the reaction temperature should be controlled70℃when the dosage of flame retardant is5g. Also, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM)observes pre-combustion and post-combustion morphology of flame-retarding rigid PUFprepared under optimum conditions. The foam sample is tested by using TGA and thedynamical mechanical analysis (DMA).It’s found that the compressive strength of flame retardant rigid PUF prepared is reduceobviously and the smoke density is not too ideal during testing the sample. Therefore, the useof modified ammonium polyphosphate (APP), which is modified by using layered zirconium phosphate (-ZrP), is added to flame-retarding (-ZrP-APP) rigid PUF prepared, enhanced thesmoke suppression effect of flame retardants. Mixing up organic montmorillonite (CMMT)and poiyisocyanate by ultrasonic oscillation to prepare CMMT/flame-retarding rigid PUF,improved the compression strength of flame-retarding rigid PUF. through the analysis of theresults of the above situation to prepare CMMT/-ZrP-APP flame-retarding rigid PUF, thecompression performance of the sample is enhanced by using universal testing machine, TGAis studied its thermal stability, meanwhile, the cone calorimeter is used to test the sampleprepared, which includes ignition time, heat total release, smoke release amount, smokerelease rate and specific extinction area.
