Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) have both the feathers of radicalpolymerization and living polymerization, applying a widely range of monomers,havingbetter controllability,and its mild reaction conditions are easily to control, having moreways to polymerization. In recent years, it has becomed the studying focus of manyscholar. RATRP is derived on the basis of the ATRP. RATRP has supported manyshortcomings of the conventional ATRP such as the initiator is toxic, the catalytic metalions is difficult to preserve having become an important aspect of the study on ATRP;The research on the ATRP of water-soluble acrylamide monomer is one aspect of thepresent study;In addition using green solvents-water as the reaction media is an effectiveway to achieve ATRP.The RATRP of AM was studied in this paper using KPS as the water-solubleinitiator, the Cu(Ⅱ) and Fe (Ⅲ) as the catalytic systems, in homogeneous aqueousmedium.The main contens of the paper include:1、The KPS is used as initiator, CuCl2with en used as catalyst can catalysis thecontrolled polymerization of AM.And the non-applicability of other ligands was alsostudied.The controllable reaction will achieved through controlling ratio of materials,polymerization temperature, monomer concentration,catalysts and ligands ratio, andother conditions.The evolution of monomer conversion and ln([M]0/[M]) vs t, theevolution of molecular weight vs conversion were studied to discuss the controllablepolymerization of acrylamide. And IR-spectrum was used to verify the structure of thepolymer, and it was confirmed to be polyacrylamide. The experimental result shows:when the materials ratios are n(AM):n(CuCl2):n(en):n(KPS)=400:1:2:0.17,temperature is20℃,monomer concentration was1.6mol·L-1, reaction time is9h, theconcern of ln([M]0/[M]) to t is also liner, the liner correlation coemmicient is0.99171,thereaction system has the controllability.2、The research of synthesis of the polyacrylamide was studied using K2S2O8as theinitiator, the (phen/EDTA) mixture as the ligand of FeCl3, in the water system, using themethod of reverse ATRP. And the non-applicability of other ligands was also studied The effects of factors:ratio of monomer and initiator, ratio of catalyst and initiator,temperature and monomer concentration were studied. Whenn(AM):n(FeCl3):n(EDTA-phen):n(KPS)=800:1:1:0.25, temperature2030℃, monomerconcentration:1.6mol·L-1, kinetic plots are linear,the evolution molecular weight vsconversion is linear. The controllable polymerization can be obtained.
