The new type of anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) was construted as experimentalequipment which was application the ABR reactor as prototype and combined with thebiological contact anaerobic technology. The cage-like filler were filled in new ABR reactorwhich were added anoxic and aerobic processes. Brewery wastewater was elected asexperimental objective in this experiment. The start of the new reactor at normal temperature andlower temperature conditions were investigated respectivily. The results in preliminary researchshowed that the new reactor had better adaptability to temperature, and could be normal startupin the two kinds of circumstance temperature. The removal efficiency of COD in the new reactorwas research in wastewater treatment. HRT and organic volume loading were analysised depthlywith the influence of COD removal. The relationship between the change of pH and the removalefficiency was discussed in the reactor operation. It was explained that the presence of cage-likefiller could met the basic requirements of HRT and SRT in the anaerobic treatment processes. Itwas the fact that the effluent of SS was lower and the biodegradability was increased as well asthe volume loading improved because of the particals being retented by the cage-like filler andthe microorganisms being attached to the growth at the surface of the suspended solid. Theeffluent concentration of ammonia nitrogen has reached the discharge standard in the new typeof reactor because of both the anoxic and aerobic processes adding. It was important reason thatthe cage-like filler and methanogenic segment were affected the amount of sludge production toadd.The experimental results showed that the COD removal efficiency was of up to more than96%, and the treated wastewater could be discharge directly.
