Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs) have attracted broad interest as new generational power sources for portable applications due to their high energy density, lack of pollution, as well as availability and ease of storage of methanol. The membrane electrode assembly (MEA) as the heart component of DMFC has a great affection of the performance of fuel cell. Herein the performance of DMFC could be improved by optimizing the structure of MEA, such as micro pore layer (MPL) or catalyst layer (CL).In this dissertation, a nano-ordered MEA was prepared with catalyst layer of Nafion/catalyst/C nanofiber network fabricated by electrospinning technology. The main contents are as follows:(1) The nanofiber with PtRu catalyst well distributed was fabricated by electrospinning (adjusting electrospun parameter including voltage, distance, flow rate of ink and proportion of ink). Electrospun condition:The ink where the PtRu/C:Nafion:PVA weight ratio is71/9:14:6is electrospun at a rate of0.15ml h-1by a pump with15cm grounded collector to the needle at a high voltage of16-18kV.(2) MEA that utilizes the PtRu/C/Nafion nanofiber network as the anode catalyst layer, when the PtRu (1:1) loading within the PtRu/C/Nafion nanofiber network is1mg cm-2, the maximum power density of a DMFC is ca.33.0±1.9mW cm-2, which is even slightly higher than that with a conventional MEA with a PtRu (1:1) loading of2mg cm-2.(3) The nanofiber with carbon particles well distributed was fabricated by electrospinning (adjusting electrospun parameter including voltage, distance, flow rate of ink and proportion of ink), then depositing Pt particles on surface of nanofiber by solution method. Electrospun condition:The ink where the C:Nafion:PVA weight ratio is8:7:3is electrospun at a rate of0.15ml h-1by a pump with15cm grounded collector to the needle at a high voltage of16-18kV.(4) C nanofiber with Pt particles distributed on the surface is fabricated by electrospinning and further dealing with. Electrospun condition:The ink with Na2PtCl6·6H2O and PVP is electrospun at a rate of0.15ml h-1by a pump with15cm grounded collector to the needle at a high voltage of18-20kV. The nanofiber fabricated by electospinning was calcining at360℃/2h and then reduction at40℃/2h by mix gas H2/N2.
