The micro groove structure is widely used in national defense science and technology, and civil industry. Especially with the optical fiber developed as a national project and the urgent request of all optical communication, As an important component of optical fiber connector, the V groove structure has huge market value. Among the various ways of processing V groove structure, ultra-precision machining is one of the most effective one. The United States, Germany, Japan and other developed countries had got lots of achievements in ultra-precision machining technology, ultra-precision processing machinery and its control system. But in domestic, this technology is relatively backward, the study of ultra-precision technology is still in its infancy. To speed up the development of optical fiber communication industry in our country, research and development of CNC machine tool for V groove ultra-precision processing is certainly of great significance.This subject is planning to develop a kind of open CNC system software based on PC to satisfy the requirement of V groove processing of the optical fiber connector. In the begining, a set of CNC test bench has been set up, which is based on PC, PMAC motion controller, KOLLMORGEN AKD drive, RENISHAW linear grating KOLLMORGEN linear motor. After connecting between hardwares, software setting and parameters adjustment, the system can run correctly.The Software is coded under Windows7operating system, by using QT development tools. There is not only a simple, friendly, and easy to operate CNC human-machine interface being designed in the software, but also having six function modules-parameter management, file operations, automatic control, manual operation, monitor and display, and3D simulation-embedded into. In Parameters management module, the system parameters, processing information and coordinate system parameters are effectively managed in a form of data table by using Microsoft Access. File operations module can realize the generation of processing code file, reading, compiling, modifing, searching, copy and paste; Automatic control module realizes program running, pause, stopping, single step function; while Manual operation module completes MDI, back to zero, and JOG; Monitor and display module deals with status information and fault alarm; Function such as motion and monitor have called PMAC’s motion control function library.3D simulation module realizes visualizing simulation by calling OpenGL, testing the feasibility of the whole process.At the end, the operating way and steps of the software were demonstrated on the hardware platform. By using a laser interferometer, the positioning precision of the uniaxial experiment platform was tested. Possible reasons for causing positioning error were raised up also. The motor has been compensated using PMAC’s compensation algorithm, which lead to a good effect.The operation of the software test results shows that the system software has realized the anticipated function of the V groove mathine CNC system software.
