Organic light-emitting diodes have attracted much attentions since thefabrication of high-performance electroluminescent device by Tang andco-workers in1987. The performance of OLEDs have greatly improved recentlydue to the efforts of scientists from all over the world. Aiming at further improvethe performance including brightness and efficiencies, different optimizations ateither device structures or material properties have been fully investigated. Ingeneral, the electron-transporting ability of the electron-deficient materialsreported so far is lower than the hole-transporting property of electron-efficientmaterials. From the point of this view, the electron-transporting materials havehighly prevented their applications in optoelectronics including OLEDs, OPVsand OFETs. Therefore, it is very important to construct novel materials withdesired properties, especially, high electron-transporting ability. The introductionof electron-withdrawing group and the extension of-conjugation are key pointsin constructing electron-transporting materials. Materials containing pyridinerings have drawn attentions recently due to their good mobility and high thermalstability. In this thesis, we have designed and synthesized three pyridine-containingcompounds through simple synthetic procedures. These molecules with highelectron mobility are a class of good candidates as electron-transporting materialsin OLEDs. Then, electroluminescent devices with simple device configuration of[ITO/NPB/AlQ: DBQA (0.5%,25nm)/ETL/LiF/Al] ETL=B3PyMPM﹑TM3PyPb﹑TM4PyPb﹑Alq3have been fabricated and fully investigated. Theperformance of different type of devices are carefully compared and discussed. Finally, reasonable explanations as well as conclusions have been proposed.
