Temperature regulating fiber is a new type of intelligent fiber, containing PCM (phase-change material) which can lead to phase transition at a certain temperature range. So it can develop a relatively stable micro-environment by absorbing or releasing energy to regulate temperature. Fabric made of this fiber today changes the traditional way of keeping warm only by wearing more. This paper focus on spinning process and new product development through testing the performance of viscose based temperature regulating fibers and fabrics made of it.(1)This study analyzed the tensile property, morphology and DSC curve of viscose based temperature regulating fibers. This paper presents that fiber has a lower breaking strength and elongation than ordinary viscose fiber. And there are micro-porous in the cross-section and longitudinal sectional which has a rougher surface. This fiber performs good in regulating temperature by releasing energy when temperature is falling down and absorbing energy when temperature is rising high.(2) This paper uses "black box" test machine made by Shanghai Intelligent Fiber Technology Corporation to test the fiber’s ability of regulating temperature. It shows that like ordinary viscose, viscose based temperature regulating fiber can’t regulate temperature if the temperature is too low to change the phase of the material. But once the temperature is higher than the threshold, the phase-change material inside the fiber can make the solid-liquid change and this kind of phase change is reversible according to the temperature outside. So it develops a stable micro-environment around the fabric. (3)While protecting the performance of viscose based temperature regulating fiber, this study changes some spinning process by using moderate gauge, lower speed, light strength and pressure to produce lighter tops. Finally it gains yarns that have higher breaking strength, lower hairiness, more uniformity and better DSC performance.(4) To spin better temperature-regulating yarns with higher breaking strength and more uniformity, this study spins multi-yarn with polyester. This paper makes the progress with the range and variance analysis methods by changing the spinning process and the percent of viscose based temperature regulating fiber.(5) The paper points out that an intertwined yarn can raise its breaking strength. This kind of yarns is spinning with pure yarns made of viscose temperature-regulating fiber and core spun yarns made of nylon and spandex. Thus, the breaking strength and elongation of the intertwined yarns is excellent, and so is their temperature-regulating permeability and heat-moisture resistance of comfort.Finally, this paper shows that changes in the spinning process can improve the breaking strength and other performance of yarns made of viscose based temperature regulating fiber. Thus this paper illuminates a way to develop viscose based temperature regulating fiber with better performance.
