Energy is an important driving force for the development of economy and societyfor a country, and embodies a country’s comprehensive national strength. Oil, as themost important energy on the earth, plays a very important role in the field ofindustrial and agricultural production and people’s lives. China, as the largestdeveloping country in the world, the world’s most populous country and the world’ssecond largest economy, is one of the world’s largest oil consumption countries. Inaddition to import, most of China’s oil consumption depends on the exploitation fromdomestic major oilfields. Therefore, the impact of exploration and exploitationtechnology on the oil production in our country is obvious.In the field of oil exploration and exploitation, drilling is a very importanttechnology and plays a key role, and drilling theory has become a mature theoreticalsystem. In all aspects of drilling, the role of drilling fluid is crucial, which isequivalent to the “blood” of drilling. Through continuous development and innovation,oil-based drilling fluid has been widely used in drilling engineering, and water-in-oilemulsion drilling fluid is most widely used. The properties of water-in-oil emulsiondrilling fluid, including electrical breakdown properties, have a significant impact onthe practical application in drilling engineering. The focus of this thesis is the designand development of intelligent testing instrument of electrical breakdown propertiesfor the test and evaluation of electrical breakdown properties of water-in-oil emulsiondrilling fluid.The development of instrument is a systematic project, and the most importantresearch task is the design and development of the control circuit. FPGA has theadvantages of high performance, low power and low cost, is the focus in the field ofelectronic design and praised by engineers and researchers. Compared with SingleChip Microcomputer and DSP, FPGA has its own advantages. In this thesis, the Cyclone IV FPGA produced by Altera is used to control the whole control circuit,including the signal acquisition circuit, digital analog converter and other importantcircuits. Through design and development of control circuit and integration with othermodules of the instrument, the development of intelligent testing instrument ofelectrical breakdown properties is finally completed.After the design is completed, the tests for stability and function according to thedesign requirements are finished in laboratory. Based on the data collection andanalysis we concluded that the instrument can test stably and evaluate the electricalbreakdown properties of drilling fluid of different preparation conditions.The last part of this thesis includes a summary of the whole design anddevelopment process of the instrument, some thoughts on the resulting and a prospectof the model of next generation of the test instrument.
