The key issue of current chemistry research has shifted from synthesisand transformation based on chemical bonds with high reactivity to the novelmethodologies focusing on the activation of inert bonds, which perfectly match theideas of atomic economy, step economy, sustainable development and greenchemistry. Thus, the activation of inert bonds are regarded the Holy Grail of organicchemistry. The activation of inert C-C bonds, which are abundant in nature, not onlycasts light on degradation of plastic pollution, but also enable the recycle ofartificially produced polymer materials. Transition metal-catalyzed selectivecleavage and reconstruction of C-C bonds are very important research fields ofmodern synthetic chemistry and base of future scientific development. Herein wereported a novel transformation, in which a selective cleavage of C-C bond in arylketones or alkyl aryl ketones subsequent decarbonylation were achieved via rhodiumcatalysis. A wide range of functionalities are tolerated. Not only does this methodprovide an alternative pathway to construct useful scaffolds, but also offers a newstrategy for C-C bond activation.
