It’s known that4,6-dinitroresorcinol (DNR) is one of key intermediates of polybenzoxazole (PBO) fiber with ultrahigh performance. However, low commercial availability and high price of DNR restrict the process of PBO research a great extend due to its preparation difficulty and dependence on imports. Micro-reaction technology, as a new technology, is successfully used in explosive, strongly exothermic and highly dangerous reactions. And this technology could solve the safety problem effectively caused by the strongly exothermic reactions in DNR manufacturing. In this work, the development and study situation of preparing DNR were summarized and the feasibility as well as advantages for synthesis DNR using micro-reaction technology were also tested and identified. DNR was produced using resorcinol (RS) as raw materials in micro-reactors within three steps which refer to sulfonation, nitration and hydrolysis. The influence of solvent, feed concentration, feed rate, molar ratio of the reactants, temperature and residence time on the mass yield was systematically investigated. By selecting D as the solvent and optimizing the process conditions, the product yield of68%and the productivity of830g/d for each micro-reactor unit were achieved. The new process for safely, efficiently producing DNR was provided in this paper.
