Smart hydrogels can have quick response to the external stimuli such as pH, temperature, ionic strength etc., they would exhibit changes in phase due to the microstructure and the group changes. As smart hydrogels have good stimuli response, they can be widely used in medical and pharmaceutical applications. Acrylic monomers hydrogel has good biocompatibility, but they are less stable in practice, and the water absorption ratio is not high.In this paper, we use hydroxyl ethyl acrylate (HEA) into acrylamide (AM) and acrylic acid (AA), acrylamide (AM) and methacrylic acid (MAA) system, to prepare P(AM-co-AA-co-HEA), P(AM-co-MAA-co-HEA) new smart hydrogels. HEA can improve the stability of the hydrogels. We use water as the medium, ammonium persulfate (APS) as initiator, at60℃, reaction24h. The gel fraction of the product were about95%. We discusses the impact of HEA absorbent hydrogel energy content of the two hydrogels. Under the same conditions, we have the synthesis of P (AM-co-AA-co-MAA-co-HEA) quaternary copolymer hydrogels.Having P(AM-co-AA-co-HEA) and P(AM-co-MAA-co-HEA) hydrogels the structural characterization and performance tests. By FTIR and SEM analysis showed that the hydrogels have three-dimensional network structure. Study their behavior in response to different temperature, pH conditions, the sodium chloride solution and different salt ions in solution. The results show that both the hydrogel with good sensitivity in response to thermal expansion behavior, pH and ionic strength. At40-70℃with a high swelling ratio, up to160g/g. pH<4have lower degree upon swelling, pH>4greater degree upon swelling. With the increase of ionic strength, water absorption ratio was significantly reduced. With the same tests of P(AM-co-AA-co-MAA-co-HEA) hydrogel, compared to the previous two hydrogels, the water absorption ratio can be increased two times, the network structure is more loose, therefore, the temperature, pH and ionic strength with higher sensitivity. In the case of alternating temperature and pH conditions stimulating effect, they have shown a good response reversibility.This paper was prepared intelligent hydrogels simple method for response to external stimuli with good behavior, could be used in the field of bio-medicine, etc., they can be a good response in isolated areas of reversibility has a good prospect.
