In recent years, the research about hybrid assemblies of inorganic nanomaterials andchromophores has attracted many scientists. It has caused great interest to buildorganic/inorganic composites by intercalation chemistry, owing to its excellent properties.γ-zirconium phosphate(γ-ZrP) and two kinds of modified zirconium phosphate were preparedby direct precipitation method, then the chromophores as guest molecules were intercalatedinto the modified zirconium phosphate, and the changes of their layer spacing andspectroscopic properties were studied.γ-ZrP is the one of the most widely studied layered compounds. The modified zirconiumphosphates which has a greater layer spacing by pre-supporting experiments were prepared tomake the guest molecules convenient to intercalate, The modified zirconium phosphates werecalled:cetyltrimethylammonium zirconium phosphate (γ-CAZrP) anddidodecyldimethylammonium zironium phosphate(γ-DDZrP). Pyrazinecarboxylic acid and2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid were inserted into the two kinds of modified zirconiumphosphate, respectively. The optical properties of the chromophores assembled into γ-CAZrPwere optimized, especially the fluorescence was enhanced obviously. It is concluded thatγ-CAZrP and γ-DDZrP provide a special microenvironment which can improve the opticalproperties of chromophores.Chromophores Fl and RhB were intercalated into the inorganic framework γ-CAZrP. Wefound that when the concentration of Fl was fixed, the fluorescence of RhB was increased, and the fluorescence of Fl decreased gradually with the concentration of RhB increased. It isconcluded that energy transfer between Fl and RhB was observed in the inorganic framework. The innovation of this work is to intercalate the chromophore which has weakfluorescence into the modified zirconium, and increased the fluorescence of the chromophoregreatly. It may be benefical for its application in the field of molecular recognition.
