The cholesteric liquid crystal has some special features, such as the thermo-optical properties and the optical rotation characters. Thus it has broad applications in optics, imaging and other fields. In recent years, the research on preparation and properties of the cholesteric liquid crystal has been one of the hot spot on liquid crystal related research. As the development of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technology in the field of preparation of functional ultrathin membrane, LB technology has become one of the main technology which is used to prepare functional and molecular ultrathin membrane.This paper studied the thermo-optical properties of the cholesteric liquid crystal. The synthetic cholesteric liquid crystal and the cholesteryl cholesteric liquid crystal were as the main research object, and with the preparation of ultrathin film, ultraviolet-visible spectrum, infrared spectrum and the thermo-optical rotation properties, the cholesteric liquid crystal was studied. First of all, the preparation technology of cholesteric liquid crystal LB films were studied using LB technology. The best preparation technology parameters were obtained by analyzing the π-A curves in the process of preparation. Then, film performance were tested by uv-vis spectra, IR spectra and the thermo-optical properties and the optical rotation characters testing. By using atomic force microscope, the micro structure of the thin film was characterized. The results of the characteristic testing showed that the cholesteric liquid crystal ultrathin film which had good thermo-optical rotation properties was obtained through the optimized preparation technology. Finally, according to the results of testing, the cholesteric liquid crystal materials selected in this paper had an absorbing peak in mid-infrared band which was over than90%. Besides, the visible light transmittance of cholesteric liquid crystal ultrathin films was above80%. The paper verified the feasibility for cholesteric liquid crystal ultrathin membrane to used for infrared detectors pieces.The cholesteric liquid crystal ultrathin films were prepared by LB technology in this paper. The thickness of cholesteric liquid crystal thin film was controlled at the molecular level and the special optical properties were realized. Both at home and abroad do not have related reports at present, and it provides a new idea for expanding application and related research of cholesteric liquid crystal.
