China’s economic development and the increase in car ownership, leading to high domestic oil consumption, air pollution caused by vehicle emissions growing. In order to solve the increasingly serious air pollution problems, the use of clean and environmentally friendly fuel is a relatively new and effective method, ethanol diesel is one of them.Study at home and abroad for ethanol diesel blended fuel mainly in its production and application areas, for the fire hazard aspect of this mixed fuel research is still lacking. Ethanol Diesel is a flammable liquid that has the characteristics of high spread speed, strong combustion strength, once stored in large storage tanks of ethanol diesel leak, a large tanker rollover in transit or using ethanol diesel car tubing or container heat deformation or rupture a fuel leak, it may cause fire, which may cause a significant loss in human and economic aspect. Therefore, the scientific analysis of the characteristics of ethanol diesel flame spread has great theoretical and practical significance.In order to study the surface flame spread characteristics of the blend fuel, the paper used homemade ethanol diesel blended fuel. The0#diesel fuel commonly used on our market was used as base oil, to which were added to the volume percentage of2.5%,5%,7.5%,10%,12.5%,15%ethanol, mixed the formation of new fuels are reported as E2.5D, E5D, E7.5D, E10D, E12.5D, E15D. After the completion of the new fuel preparation, quietly place for some time, waiting to be used.We designed and built an experimental system of liquid flame spread, through the use of high-speed schlieren imaging technology, fine thermocouple technology and techniques in real-time digital video camera recording the whole process of flame spread. The physical characteristics of the spread flame, the flame spread movement patterns, characteristics and flame spread rate, increase of the surface temperature of the fuel and other laws were explored.The surface flame spread characteristics of0#diesel oil at different initial temperature conditions of the paper were studied, in order to explore the causes of flashover flame and surface flow. It compared the flame spread model under different initial temperatures of the fuel. Through temperature measurement of fine thermocouples and analysis of temperature rise law in the entire surface flame spread process, we found that when the initial fuel temperature<35℃, as the temperature rises, the role of surface flow is weakened, reducing the average flame spread speed; when the initial fuel temperature>35℃, the flame spread rate increases as the temperature increases.The paper studied on the surface flame spread characteristics of different proportions of ethanol diesel blended fuel, through the analysis of the experimental results, we found that the flame of ethanol-diesel fuel spread with low speed pulsation when the proportion of ethanol added<10%, that the flame spread speed shows a relatively small amplitude of variation. Meanwhile, surface flow appears under the fuel surface of the flame front and the heating rate of mixed fuel surface increases with increasing initial temperature. When the proportion of ethanol added≥10%, the flame spread in stable state, no surface flow below the fuel level at this time ahead of the flame, the flame spread velocity will decrease with the increase of the initial temperature of mixed fuel, the fuel surface heating rate will decrease with the increase of initial temperature.
