Facing the increasingly serious water pollution situation, people begin to focus on andlook for ways to the governance approach of water pollution. With advantage of lowproduction cost, rich source, as well as good removal efficiency, bioadsorption method hasgive rise to more widespread attention and application gradually. In this paper, a kind of adsorbent was prepared by grafting β-cyclodextrin andamino-terminated hyperbranched polymer after the alkalization cotton fiber through epoxychloropropane epoxidation and sodium periodate oxidation. And optimized the techniquein the preparation process of NaIO4oxidation and HBP-NH2grafting. We characterize andanalyze the adsorbent by FT-IR and SEM. The results show that the molecule of cottonfiber-based adsorbent contains a large group of amino, hydroxy and hydrophobic cavityand other active sites. They can remove heavy metal ions or dyes by form coordination andinclusion. From the datas of adsorption experiments for heavy metals (Pb2+, Ag+, Cu2+) and dye(Congo red and methylene blue),it show that the cotton fiber based adsorbents arecompared to the cotton fiber has higher adsorption capacity, The maximum adsorptioncapacities of cotton fiber based adsorbent for Pb2+、Ag+、Cu2+were78.7mg/g,43.8mg/gand27.5mg/g,which were7~22times larger than that of cotton fiber. In competitionsystem, the mutual influence between heavy metal ions leds to the decrease of theadsorption capacity of different degree. And the maximum adsorption capacities of Congored and methylene blue was300.8mg/g and71.4mg/g,which were5~20times largerthan that of cotton fiber. This paper also study the influence of adsorbent dosage、pH of solution、adsorptiontime、initial concentration on the Cotton fiber-based adsorbent effects of heavy metal ionsand dyes. We use dynamics and isotherm model to fit the experimental datas. The resultsshow that, the pseudo-second-order kinetics model can fit the effect of heavy metals and dyes well. The adsorption process of heavy metal ions can use Langmuir adsorptionisotherm model to describe, which belongs to monolayer adsorption. The adsorptionprocess of dye is much better to fit with the Freundlich isotherm model, which belongs toone of polymolecular layer.
