Plastics were widely used in the national economy; it shows lower weight, fine chemical stability, low heat conduction, high specific strength and wide mechanical strength distribution when compared with metal materials and inorganic non-metal materials, the plastics industry played a very important role in the world. However, the plastics were quite sensitive to notches, which attribute to low notch impact strength, restricted the use of plastics, the toughness could be improved by blending with rubbers. The rubbers which were used should be functioned due to the non-polar nature, which were incompatible with polar plastics in the blends, the impact strength had been improved by blending with functional rubbers, but the rigidity decreased with the adding of rubbers. PP and PE were introduce into the blend system to decrease the rigidity lose, but the compatibility between unmodified PP and PE with plastic matrix was poor, which was not favor for toughening.In this paper, poly (ethylene-octene) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) were functionalized with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) through react extrusion technology simultaneously; the grafting products were used as impact modifier to blend with poly (butylene terephthalate)(PBT) and Styrene maleic anhydride copolymer (SMA) to get blends with high ductile, high strength and low costs. Researched the grafting reaction of POE and LLDPE, effects to mechanical properties and tough mechanism of PBT blends and SMA blends had been discussed.(1) FTIR analyze proved that GMA had been grafted onto the molecular chain of POE and LLDPE through react extrusion grafting technology successfully. The grafting reaction of POE and LLDPE was consistent with the grafting reaction of POE; the adding of LLDPE improved the grafting degree of GMA.(2) The grafting products (POE/LLDPE)-graft-GMA were reactive blending with PBT, results showed that functioned POE and LLDPE improved the impact strength effectively, blends with little LLDPE content showed higher strength than blends without the adding of LLDPE. If the POE content was sufficient to get ductile fracture, the adding of LLDPE would promote the matrix for further deformation. When POE and LLDPE was used together to modified PBT, the blends showed two stress drop during the tensile experiment.(3)The grafting products (POE/LLDPE)-graft-GMA were reactive blending with SMA, results shows that the impact strength of blends improved obviously, the function degree of (POE/LLDPE)-graft-GMA shows little effect to the properties of blends than the weight ratio of POE/LLDPE.
