| The valve of 16V280ZJA diesel engine is one of the most important components in DF8、DF8B、DF11、DF11G locomotive engine,whose performance influences the operating safety of locomotive directly.Therefore,it’s important to improve reliability and life of valve.This paper formulates suitable material technical conditions of the valve of 16V280ZJA diesel engine, investigates the characteristics of 4Cr14Ni14W2Mo valve steel, and at the same time, emphatically investigates technical equipment used in valve upsetting forging and the method to determine all kinds of condition in process. Furthermore, abnormal phenomenon in upsetting process is analysed in detail, for operator to find problems timely and take correct measures. An experiment is conducted on heat treatment conditions of 280 valve by upsetting forging, and the heat treatment technical system established, failure in work of the valve of 16V280ZJA diesel engine and reasons analysed. The data about failure mode and quantity of valve by upsetting forging and free forging during certain time are sampled and collected. And work reliability of valve by two processes is calculated using reliability theory, respectively.
