The red glass was used to art decoration, filter, lighting, signal lamp, laser, fluorescence and so on. It had a very important signification to daily life, industrial and agricultural yield, science culture, and the construction of national defence. The red glass was very famous for a long time, the development of the red glass was great in the domestic and overseas. Its transmitted wavelength was 600nm above, it could be used to imitate the ruby glass, the study of the red glass was very mature early in the 1950s’, especially the technology of the Selenium ruby glass was more perfect. The overseas researchers have studied and summarized the manufactural technology systematically in the 1980s’. Along with the development of science technology, the red glass has been widely used in some high-tech fields, such as radar isolators and laser filters. But the Selenium ruby glass has tremendous harm to humans and the environment, environment protection has been to be the subject of the development for the glass industry. We need to study the new red glass to substitute for the Selenium ruby glass. In this experiment, Na2O-CaO-SiO2 glass system was chosen doped with the mixture of Sb2O3, S powder and C powder as the colored dosage, the melting temperature was at 1480°C,the Antimony red glass was obtained under strict melting curve, the shaped glass was put into the muffle furnace to color at 560°C, after cooling the glass, we can get the colored glass from red-orange to deep red, the glass was cut, grinded and polished according to the requirements of the sample, kinds of performances of the samples were tested, the Antimony red glass was compared with the Selenium ruby glass, the colored characterization was analyzed on theory.The density of the Antimony red glass was 2.64×103kg/m3, its refractive index was 1.651, the Mohs’ hardness was [4,5], the grade of resistant acid on the glass surface was first grade, the grade of resistant alkalescence was second grade, the softening temperature of the glass was at 630°C. The coordinate of Antimony red glass was (0.64,0.33) in the x-y color system graph, its brightness was 7.35%, its excitation saturation was 92%, its dominant wavelength was 624nm, compared these two kinds of glass, the difference between them was tiny, compared with their transmitted spectral curve, the absorption band of the Antimony red glass was not steep as the Selenium ruby glass, their physical parameters and the color parameters were very similar.We can draw the following conclusions from the experiment. (1)The cut-off length of the glass moved to the longer wavelength with the increase of S powder, Sb2O3 and the time of heating treatment respectively.(2)But the colored dosage and the time of heating treatment should be appropriately, not overloaded, or the glass was easily to be ceramic and not transparent, we can’t achieve the expectation.(3)The Antimony red glass can substitute for the Selenium ruby glass to some extent, its refractive index, excitation saturation and the grade of resistant alkalescence should be improved.
